The Magic of Accidental SEO
It would be nice if we were all SEO gurus, you know the type that has henchmen working for him, testing different theories to unearth the secrets of the algorithm’s latest black box. No this is not comic book time, there are experts out there that are really awesome at SEO, and entrepreneurs pay these experts awesome money for there insight and opinions.
This is all well and good if you already make a ton of money from your online business and you have gobs of it lying around to re-invest. But what if you are just starting out and don’t have access to the tips and tricks that the elite have lying at their fingertips?
The rest of us have what some have come to call, Accidental SEO. I would define Accidental SEO as an iterative process where by each step in the process gives the sight owner feedback which increases not only his knowledge of SEO, but more importantly increases his knowledge of which SEO strategies and tactics work best on his site.
This feedback gives the sight owner an answer to the most important question in SEO, the question of “what should I do next?”
In my experience Accidental SEO works best on two types of websites, either blogs or multi-page static websites promoted through article marketing. Let’s consider the example of a multi-page website.
Say, for instance that your niche was the popular Australian marsupial known as the “Sugar Glider”. You might have a page about “Sugar Glider Enclosures”, one for “Sugar Glider Diet”, and another for “Sugar Glider Breading” just to start.
If you right five articles for each of these static pages for a total of 15 articles, and then submit these articles to article submission directories, you may find that one of these keyphrases outshines the others.
Perhaps you discover that your “Sugar Glider Breading” page receives the most traffic. In that case you may want to consider writing two more static pages relating to the subject of “Sugar Glider Breading” and writing five articles for each of these pages.
Once you feel like you have exhausted one branch of the decision tree you can go back a level or two and search for the next branch that is laden with easy to reach fruit.
Using the feedback from your site’s stats tracking software in this way can be an extremely effective method for multiplying the traffic to your site. This process of Accidental SEO is totally based on elbow-grease, the frequency with which you produce content and / or articles will determine how fast you reap the benefits.
