How to Get Indexed Fast

by Phil Weslow

Here is a trick for getting your site indexed fast. Some of you know this trick but this post is for those of you who don’t. Before we get into the “How To” of this article let’s start be examining what it means to get indexed.

If your site is indexed with a particular search engine, it means that your site is in their database and that one or more of your site’s pages will be returned as a search result for at least one keyword. It could be a high traffic keyword, or a low traffic key word. Keep in mind, just because one of your site’s pages shows up as a search result, for a particular keyword, does not mean you will show up on the first page of search results. You may show up on the twelfth.

As far as I know the trick I am going to share with you only works on one search engine, fortunately that search engine is Google and Google gets more traffic than any other search engine on the planet! So what is this secret formula you may ask? What can you do ease the pain of spending days waiting for your site to get indexed? The answer is to throw at least one Google AdSense ad on your site. In my opinion having AdSense on your site speeds up the indexing process for Google by a noticeable factor.

Google “AdSense for Content” is when Google pays website publishers (on a per-click bases) to have their adds show up on the publisher’s website.  Google AdSense is the opposite side of the coin from Google AdWords is where advertisers pay Google (on a per-click bases) to have their adds show up next to Google search results, on third party webpages, and other possible  places.
So how do you “throw an ad on your site”? The first step is to register for Google AdSense if you have not already done so. To do this you can visit http://www.google.com/adsense and click where it says “Sign up now >>”. Once you have registered, log into your account and click on the tab that says “AdSense Setup”.  Next click on the text link entitled “AdSense for Content.” Don’t worry about the drop down boxes for now, you can always log back into your account and change options latter, for right now let’s stick with the default options.

When you are on the “AdSense for Content” page scroll to the bottom and click on the button marked “Continue >>”. This will bring you to a page where you can adjust “channel” options, for now just click “Continue >>” button once again.

On the bottom of this page will button that says “Submit and Get Code”, click this button. This page displays for you the Google AdSense code that has been generated for you. Make sure to copy this entire code snippet. You may want to save the code on your computer. To do this I would recommend a plan text editor like notepad, I would not recommend using Microsoft Word.

Now that you have your AdSense code you will need to add it to the HTML of your webpage. You may need to play around a little to find a place to insert the code so that it does not mess up the HTML that you already have on your site. One you have modified your HTML file and uploaded it you will know things have worked properly if you can see the add on your site when you visit your site with a web browser.

Keep in mind that the method I have described for using AdSense is one possible way to speed up the indexing process. There may be other methods. Also the method described above is one way to put AdSense on your site, AdSense has many options and there are certainly other routes to go besides the quick example given above.
