Anatomy of a Name Squeeze Page

If you’re not familiar with the term, a “Name Squeeze Page” refers to a web page whose singular purpose is to generate leads for your email list.

The best way to start considering what makes up a names squeeze page is to look at an example. The following example of a name squeeze page is one I found after doing a quick online search. I am just using it as an example so I am not suggesting that you sign-up for this list.

So here’s our example. Having this basic template in mind we can now speak about creating name squeeze pages.

Let’s consider the different attributes that make up the body of a name squeeze page. The first thing I’d like to point out is the boarder. Our example site has what I like to call an “invisible border” (white on white). Colored borders are extremely common in name squeeze pages, however regardless of color they generally serve the same purpose, which is to draw the reader’s eyes down the page to the opt-in form.

With this in mind the second feature of a name squeeze page that I’d like to point out is “white space”. Simply put these are the spaces in between lines of text. Just like the boarders mentioned above, whitespace serves the purpose of drawing the readers eyes further down the page. If the spacing is off usually you can tell just by looking at it. If you have any doubts about your spacing, have a couple friends look at your copy and ask them if they think the spacing aids the flow of the piece of hinders it.

The next thing to consider in the anatomy of your name squeeze page is its header. The header is basically the title at the top of your text. It usually appears in different color text from the rest of the body. In our above mentioned example, the header is red. This is one of the most important features of the page and is often the first thing to get noticed when your prospects lands on the page.

In addition to the header some name squeeze pages have a sub-header which is a second heading, usually written in a smaller font then the header but a bigger font then regular body text. The page we have been using as our example does not.

Under this comes your page’s body text. This text basically serves as sales copy whose purpose it to sell you on submitting your email address at the bottom of the page. In addition to plain text it is common to see bold, highlighted, and italicized text mixed in as well. Somewhere within the body text, most name squeeze pages have some from of bullet point list describing benefits of the being on the email list.

Also in vogue these days is placing a link at the bottom of your name squeeze page to your privacy policy as well as a link for your physical address. In theory this tactic serves two purposes. The first is to help convince your prospective prospects that you are not a scam artist. The second purpose to help with your search engine rankings since some believe that search engines prefer name squeeze pages with such links to those that do not have them.

What why have described above is the standard format style name squeeze page that has been around for quite some time. What has come into fashion recently are video based name squeeze pages. In these types of name squeeze pages sometimes all you will see on page are the video and the opt-in form with nothing else. Please keep in mind that hybrids with video and text are also possible.
